Eden Cheese is Sending a Powerful Message to Non-Traditional Families

Eden Cheese is breaking down gender stereotypes with their newly released Mother’s Day commercial but instead of a mother, they show a single father buying a styles magazine, and even going so far as to learn how to put on nail polish and braid hair all so he can be mother as well as father to his daughter. The commercial ends with the word “Motherhood” defined as “the state or experience of raising a child” followed by a number of pictures of different families, including a gay couple and their child. The flash of these pictures is brief, but it sends a positive message that a family does not have to be “traditional” to raise a child.

To my knowledge, this is the first Philippine commercial that, that very subtly but nonetheless, positively affirms gay couples and their families.
