Trans Discrimination at Bars in Cebu City

In 2017 alone, at least two transgender women have aired out their complaints of discrimination on social media giant, Facebook. They complained about being denied entry to bars due to their transgender status.

Cebu City has an anti-discrimination ordinance that passed in October 2012 but the ordinance still lacks implementing rules and regulations. However, you can file a complaint at the LGBT Help Desk located at Rizal Memorial Library or with the Anti-Discrimination Commission of Cebu City at the Cebu City Hall.

These incidences are only a small sample of the systemic discrimination that transgender individuals experience everyday. This is why our legislators need to pass the SOGIE Equality Bill in the Senate and why we need to push our Senators to support this law and stop delaying the passage of this important bill. Write to our senators and tell them why the SOGIE Equality Bill is important to you in your context.

Are you protected by an anti-discrimination ordinance? Check our list of anti-discrimination ordinances and download a copy of your ordinance.
